WG Autonomous Nautic Systems

The Autonomous Nautic Systems (ANS) working group researches technologies for autonomous, networked, and safe systems in inland and coastal shipping. The focus is on methods for environmental perception, object recognition, and GNSS-free localization, sensor-based decision-making, and model predictive and probabilistic control of autonomous watercraft. A particular focus is on the integration of multimodal sensor data (camera, LiDAR, radar,
acoustics) and its implementation in robust real-time systems.
As part of research projects such as DemoBin and DOckGuard, the group is developing prototypical systems for automated check-in and check-out, autonomous docking, and intelligent ship and port monitoring.
The goal is to develop digital test fields and AI-based assistance and
automation solutions that increase the efficiency, safety, and
sustainability of inland waterway transport and contribute to the
transformation of modern port infrastructures.
